Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1

$29,99

Formerly known as Home Assistant SkyConnect, it is a versatile USB stick providing Zigbee and Thread connectivity. Pre-installed with Zigbee firmware, it integrates with Home Assistant through ZHA for network creation and migration. The device can also serve as a Thread border router for Matter devices. With regular firmware updates, +20 dBm range and a USB extension cable to avoid interference, it’s an ideal solution for expanding smart home connectivity within the Home Assistant ecosystem.

Description

Zigbee/Matter/Thread USB Stick for Home Assistant

The Home Assistant ZBT-1is designed to be a perfect match for Home Assistant Users. The device provides an easy connection with Zigbee and will support Matter specifications in the future with a firmware update from Home Assistant. The product supports Over-The-Wire (OTW) Firmware Update via the USB interface, which allows easy and quick firmware updates for both protocols. The device is an EFR32 Series 2 (Silicon Labs EZSP v8) adapter that will transmit at a power of +20 dBm. The drive supports full-speed USB 2.0 when plugged into the included USB extender.

The hardware is based on a Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 SoC with an IEEE 802.15.4 multi-protocol 2.4GHz radio MCU that is capable of concurrently running both Zigbee 3.0 (EmberZNet/EZSP) and Thread (OpenThread/Spinel inc. Matter/CHIP over Thread) stacks/protocols at the same time by using firmware in RCP RCP (Radio Co-Processor) mode. Direct local serial communication will be done via an onboard USB-to-UART bridge/converter (presumably a chip in Silicon Labs CP210x series).

Home Assistant will provide an Addon that will contact the Ember Stacks for Zigbee and Matter.Home Assistant will provide updates to the firmware on a consistent basis that will provide the best user experience from a Zigbee/Matter Adapter. The USB Stick will be Plug and Play, tightly integrated with the Zigbee Home Automation integration allowing for a beginner-friendly experience. Note

The Home Assistant ZBT-1 will not run Matter immediately on launch but using Home Assistant the firmware will be updated to enable Matter when the firmware is finished being developed. What is Home Assistant?

Home Assistant is open-source home automation that prioritizes local control and privacy. Powered by a worldwide community of tinkerers and DIY enthusiasts, it is perfect to run on a Raspberry Pi, or Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 powered Home Assistant Yellow, Seeed reTerminal, and mini router with dual gigabit ethernet, or a local server such as Seeed Odyssey Blue powered by Intel Celeron J4125. Home Assistant can be accessed via a web-based user interface, via companion apps for Android and iOS, or using voice commands via a supported virtual assistant like Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Home assistant enables the local control of smart home devices, offering better security, greater reliability, and more flexibility than many cloud-connected devices.

What is the difference between Home Assistant SkyConnect and Connect ZBT-1?

Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 is the new name for Home Assistant SkyConnect. Though it’s a new name and look, they have the exact same hardware, capability, and support. We made this change to help make room for a new line of Connect products, specifically an upcoming Z-Wave Connect product. Going forward, whenever we mention updates or features for Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1, this will also apply to SkyConnect-branded devices. Retailers will continue to sell SkyConnect-branded devices while supplies last, and we would encourage you to purchase whatever is available as they are functionally identical.

Why include a USB extension cable?

USB 3.0 ports (the ones with blue on the inside) are known to cause significant noise and radio interference to any 2.4 GHz wireless devices. This includes Zigbee and Thread. If you do not use the extension cable, it may not work at all, and if it does, it could be flaky at best with intermittent problems (issues with pairing, device dropouts, unreachable devices, timeout errors, etc).
